Chapter 7 "let this be a clean race!"

Gina Stepped begrudgingly out of the car and leaned onto a nearby Traincar. Reina stepped in front of our cars in between both of us. she had a rolled up paper in one hand and an old red handkerchief blotted with motor oil in the other. "Okay folks!" she spoke through the piece of paper like a Loudspeaker. "let this be a clean race! first one to complete a full lap around the Train Station wins the pot! now ladies and gentleman, Start your engines!" Mikes car started right up with a roar and a small chirp from the exhaust. you can tell that Reina has been tinkering with his new toy. it took my car about a minute to start up. the SVX awoke with a definitive roar and a chirp from the dual exhaust pipes. the car was far from stock itself and has held its own against much tougher cars in its prime. Reina raised her left arm straight up into the air with the oily red handkerchief dangling from her fingertips. "when this rag drops, you guys floor it, okay?" we both revved our engines in agreement. "On your marks, get set." before she could say that last word, a red and blue light strobed across Reina's body followed by a chirping whistle.

"Cops!" everyone screamed. Reina dropped the dirty handkerchief and hopped in Mikes car. they both sped off into the maze of abandoned Train cars. "Gina! Get in!" i screamed out my moonroof hoping Gina heard. within a split second she dove feet first through the opening in the moonroof. her slender body made it look easy. "hold on." placing my car in first gear, i slammed down on the gas only to hear a loud metal scraping noise. the car jerked forward, then came to an abrupt halt. i realized i let off the clutch too quickly and accidently caused a stall. "Fuck!" i shouted. the police cruiser was only yards away from us now and i have to restart the engine. "cmon-cmon-cmon-cmon, Fuck!" the engine turned slowly, the car didnt have enough battery power to turn the starter quick enough. anger was filling my body. "lets just run for it!" Gina exclaimed. i knew that if we left the car they would trace it back to my Apartment. "i cant!" i replied to Gina. the heat from my frustration made my body feel like it was bathing in liquid fire. it was similar to the feeling of pain i had after i hit Leo. "Lets go!" i punched my radio out of frustration, but when my fist hit the console, little green sparks came flying out in every direction. almost immediately the car came to life with a familiar and harmonious roar. "okay?" both Gina and i said with confusion in our voices, without a second thought i stuck it into first again and began entering the twisted maze of traincars.

the Trainyard was filled with old and rusted scrap. train cars were littered all over the place in no possible order. a narrow dust trail shown the direction in which Reina and Mike took off, but the Mercedes was nowhere to be seen. the flashing red and blue lights were shrouded by the dust created by my car. the trails twisted and turned off suddenly while rusted out train cars whizzed by close enough to stick my hand out and touch. still following Mikes feint tire tracks i noticed one of the closer train cars had a large silver streak across the lower edge. accompanied by some glass sparkling on the floor nearby. "i hope they got away ok." i said towards Gina. She was still in a state of shock staring at the radio, waiting for something to happen. "you do know the cops are chasing us, right?" i took a glance in my rearview mirror noticing the red and blue glow was far enough away that we might have a chance of escaping.

i waved my hands in front of Gina's eyes to break her concentration. "how are you so calm?" Gina replied i was a bit suprised by her question. "well um, idunno. i just am. dont worry, they wont catch us." just as i finished talking a large cracking sound came from under the hood. "your fucking kidding me right?" Gina screamed nervously. the engine ceased and the lights went out, but we were still drifting forward. we were now going about 60 miles per hour in pitch black with giant rusty metal death traps on either side of us. the cop was starting to catch up. we noticed the red and blue glow was starting to reflect off the nearby scrap. out of the corner of my eye i saw a small space between two carts that was just big enough to turn in to. "hold on." i slammed down on my brakes and spun the wheel to the left. the car almost did a complete 90 degree spin and barely had enough momentum to squeeze itself into the tiny space. thankfully the space was deep enough to fit the entire car. Gina and i both ducked under the window hoping the car was hidden enough so that the police cruiser didnt notice. it seemed like an eternity ducked down but eventually the cruiser passed us by, leaving a dust trail behind him. we both let out a large sigh of relief when the red and blue glow faded away.

Chapter 6 " Its not the same..."

"sorry but i gotta go!" i replied. the Paramedic helped me out of the chair after stitching and bandaging up my wounds. "go where?" gina asked nervously from across the stall. "i need to meet up with Reina and Mike. they have something of mine that i need to pick up." not a complete lie, but enough to lower any suspicion. "please dont do anything too strenuous. the stitches will hold, but too much activity may cause minor tears and cause infection." the male paramedic noted as if he saw through my lie. "ill be fine, dont worry ive survived worse." i replied. "ok but could you give me a ride home Jack? i kinda missed my bus around the time that you knocked out Leo." Gina asked with the most innocent look on her face. "oh shit Leo!" i turned my head to the left and noticed Leo still sprawled out on top of the milk spattered bar with the female nurse keeping a close eye on him. "is he okay?" i asked nervously to the nurse. "he'll be fine, he's just sleeping it off. he should be up in about 10 to 15 minutes or so." the nurse never took her eyes off him as she spoke to me. "he's not fine! hes gonna be paying off that cappuchino machine for the rest of his life!" the boss blurted out from behind the counter staring in disbelief on how David took out his beloved goliath. that machine was the trademark of the bosses business. now that its gone, its going to put a major dent in his profits. "always thinking about money." i muttered to myself. "anyway, Gina if you need a lift ill take you but you gotta show me where you live again. i kinda forgot." i said. Gina let out a sigh of contempt. "your truly amazing sometimes Jack, you know that right?" "sarcasm will get you everywhere in life Gi-gi. except home..." i let out a smirk and headed toward the exit.

on our way out the door, leo started to wake up. you could already hear the boss screaming at him by the time we reached my car. "so which way?" i asked as i opened the driver door and fell into my seat. "just drive and ill tell you when to turn ok?" gina Replied "yes ma'am!" pretending to be a chauffeur. after about a minute of trying to start my car, it finally roared to life. i decided to start heading towards the old train station since thats where i planned to meet up with Reina and Mike. since i remembered Gina's house was in the same general direction, she didnt make a peep. about ten minutes of driving passed in silence, Gina was staring out the passenger window. "im coming with you." she blurted "what? to where?" i replied "you know where, im not stupid. youre going to race mike again! dont you remember what happened last time?" "its not the same!" interrupting her mid-sentence. "this time i know i can win! last time was a fluke. i was in the lead until he tapped my bumper and spun me out. he wont even get a chance to do that this time." i gritted my teeth wishing to myself that what i was saying was true. i took a glance at Gina and noticed she was staring out the window again. i guess i hurt her feelings when i snapped at her. the rest of the ride was silent. knowing that she would refuse to be dropped off at her house, i proceeded to the train station.

Noticing Mike sitting on the hood of his new car with a look of boredom on his face, i could tell i was very late. i pulled up next to his car since it was already parked at the starting line. "you still dont have to do this." Gina muttered. knowing that i would ignore those words. "hey guys! sorry im late. i had to work overtime tonight." i yelled out the open moonroof. "impatient here, wanted to bail out early." Reina replied while aiming her chin at Mike. "but i kept him buisy till you showed up". Mike smirked and glanced at me. "you sure that shithole can keep up with this?" Mike waved his hand across his car like he was on a gameshow. it was a brand new Mercedes CLK convertible. "so daddy bought you a new one huh? how long will this one last, three days, maybe four? i smirked and stepped out of my car to greet Reina. "whats up Rei? was he making out with his car again? i got Gina with me if thats ok." i gave her a hug and pointed toward Gina who was still sitting in the car staring at the Mercedes. "yea its fine, but i suggest she gets out of the car before the race." Reina and Gina used to be best friends in high school, but they both soon went their separate ways like most high school acquaintances do. "Are we gonna do this or are we gonna bitch around like women?" Mike blurted while hopping over his door into his seat. "Hell yeah! lets do this thing!" i jogged towards my car and slid across the hood like i was in an 80's cop film. only to notice i left a giant scratch across my entire hood from my pants. both Mike and Reina noticed the scratch and burst out laughing. "smooth!" both Mike and Reina said at the same time by coincidence. i growled in response and sat in the drivers seat.

Chapter 5 "let it go Jack..."

"hold on hes waking up."..."Sir?"... "are you ok?"... "Sir?" when my eyes opened, all i saw was a blurry woman in a blue and white with a badge on her chest. "whats going on? my head is killing me." i reached my hand up towards the back of my head but i stopped midway after i felt a sharp pain shoot through my right shoulder. "you were just in an accident. as im told, there was a malfunction in one of the coffee makers and it resulted in an explosion." the paramedic responded. "you have a minor cut on your right shoulder blade as well as a wound on the back of your head from a bronze pipe." i saw the blurry blue woman leave my line of sight and a blurry red one take her place. "Jack?" a familiar voice sounded. "Gina? you okay?" i asked "im fine. you blocked everything with your head" she giggled a little "good thing your thick headed, otherwise you would never of survived."

my vision was clear enough now to see a smile of relief on gina's face. "how long was i out?" i asked "about twenty minutes. its about nine o'clock." gina said. "great, im late." i said "late for what?" by now i realized i was laying on the floor and everybody was standing over me. i used my left arm and pushed myself up into a sitting position. "im just late for something ok?" trying to change the subject. "do i need to go to the hospital?" i asked the paramedic to my right, staring in disbelief. "well um, usually massive head trauma victims arent able to sit up that quickly. im guessing it wasnt as bad as we thought." the paramedic took her hand and placed it across my back for support. i reached up to feel the back of my head with my left this time, and felt a golfball sized lump.

"ouch, that must of hurt!" a nasal voice from behind me said. i spun my head around almost in an "Exorcist" fashion. "you! you fucking bastard!" i saw Leo with a bandage wrapped around his right eye and ear. "you piece of shit screw up! you almost killed me!" leo was frozen solid in place. "dude, it was an accident! honest!" leo replied "lo-look!" he pointed at his right eye. "i got hurt too!" his hand was shaking, and he knew i noticed it. "im sorry, honestly!" i didnt hear him say those last words. Anger was filling my body. "too bad the boss didnt fire you for this." i muttered, trying to calm myself down. leo looked down and muttered to himself a bit too loud. "too bad that pipe didnt kill ya." when i heard what he said i jumped up, spun around a placed my right fist directly into his face. leo stumbled backward and landed neatly across one of the booth tables, knocked out cold. "jack!" gina screamed. my head spun around, followed by my body. i noticed that Gina, the Paramedic, my Boss, and another male Paramedic staring straight at me with their jaws dropped. "sorry" i smirked. "unbelieveable" the male paramedic said from behind everyone else. "huh? what i do?" i curiously asked. "you managed to sustain a massive head wound, stand up, spin 180 degrees and proceed to knock out your colleague with your arm that still has a large piece of shrapnel inside it. do you even feel it right now?" the paramedic stood there still with his jaw dropped, staring at my right arm. "i have never seen anything like it. its Inhuman!" that word stung me like ive heard it before. i just cant remember when.

my right arm was covered in my own blood. i must of forced the piece of metal in deeper when i punched leo. all of a sudden a massive pain began to build up in my back and right arm. "ow-oww-owww!" i clutched my right arm with my left. "what is this pain?" a familiar feeling of liquid fire ran through my arm, shoulder and back. "stop it!" i groaned "stop what? whats wrong jack?" gina asked. "my arm. its on fire!" i collapsed to my knees in pain. "let it out Jack, you know how." a familiar voice said behind me. "how?" i groaned "how what? sir whats wrong? answer me!" the paramedic demanded. "let it go Jack." the voice said again. "remember." a wave of pictures went through my head, but none of them made any sense. the pain was getting stronger now. i had no choice. i reached my left hand over my right shoulder and pulled out the knife shaped piece of shrapnel out of me with a blood curdling scream. the pain in my shoulder slowly dissapeared, but my arm was stil on fire. "let it out you fool!" the familiar voice said yet again. finally as if instinct, i grabbed the bronze metal pipe that hit my head and squeezed it as hard as i could. the fire slowly faded away as the subtle smell of burning milk filled my nostrils. i looked down to see that the droplets of milk and water on the pipe that got everywhere, was sizzling and dissapearing in front of my eyes. "what the hell?" i said to myself. "whats going on jack? are you ok?" ginas voice reminded me where i was. "im fine now" i muttered. "the pain just caught up with me thats all." the paramedics both stared at me knowing that was a lie. "do any of you have a band aid?" i smiled as i stuck out my bloody arm towards the paramedics."we can stitch up the wound as well a give you a shot of Roxicodone to dull any excess pain. would you rather that instead of a band aid?" the female paramedic smirked as she held up a needle and thread.

Chapter 4 "They Were Useless Vermin..."

It was raining. the alleys were filled with ankle deep puddles of water, and the moon was covered by clouds so it was hard to see. straight ahead of me was two men hovering over a metal garbage can, filled with the orange glow of burning old magazines and paper goods. it seemed as if they were arguing about something, but i wasnt sure exactly. since they were out of ear shot. curious, i started to walk closer to them slowly to see what the arguement was about. they spotted me from across the alley and started to whisper to eachother as if they were planning something. "hey boy! wheres your mommy? arent you too young to be out here alone?" the guy on the right side smirked and laughed as the one on the left started to walk toward me. "im old enough to take care of myself." i said. i can see now that they were two homeless bums, trying to keep warm in the cold, rainy night. "now boy you look to be bout nine or ten years old. how can you possibly take care of yourself?" by now he was merely a few yards away from where i was standing. "i'd show you but i doubt you would want to find out." i stood my ground as the bum on the left was almost directly in front of me. the other bum was still trying to keep warm by the garbage can, not caring what the man closest to me was up to. "those are some nice shoes, boy. bet i can git a pretty penny for them."

the man came lunging forward at me with his right hand streched out as to grab my neck. almost as a reflex, a large wave of electricity coursed through my body and pinpointed every muscle in my legs and torso. my body almost instinctively ducked down, dodging the mans arm and jumped to the side to avoid the rest of his body. it felt like liquid fire ran through my muscles but it was worth it, considering the alternative. the man stumbled forward and twisted his neck around to face me. his face had a look of confusion and amazement on it. "how'd you move that fast boy? stay still and gimmie those fuckin shoes!" the homeless man. desperate for a couple bucks in his pocket, lunged at me with both hands streched out this time. yet again the powerful wave of electricity coursed through my leg and back muscles. forcing me to duck and roll between the bums legs. dodging him yet another time. the pain afterwards was excruciating, but it was necessary. "theres something wrong with that kid Charlie! let him alone!" the man still near the glowing garbage can shouted towards his apparent comrade. "No! we need this Phil! do you wanna sleep out here again? we need this kids stuff!" the hostile man reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a rusted old knife that looked as if it belonged to a set from a silverware collection. he pointed the knife towards me and said "i dont care what it takes! im not gonna let you outta here without your stuff!" rage filled the mans eyes as he lunged at me once again this time with that rusty old knife. by now my body was on fire and i didnt have another dodge left in me. i knew i had to stop him once and for all. i crouched down onto the puddle-filled alley floor barely dodging the rusty knife that whistled passed my left ear. with my right hand straight out, i placed my palm directly on the bums chest and gripped his grungy old stain-ridden shirt. "clear!" i shouted as i felt two massive surges of electricity force its way out of me. one coming out my hand that was against the mans chest and another out my feet, which were submerged ankle deep in a puddle that the homeless man was also submerged in, creating a complete electric current.

a large cracking noise filled the entire alley way. and the hostile homeless man that was just a foot away from me was now flying through the air towards his buddy near the garbage can. my hand was still stretched out with little neon green archs of electricity jumping from finger to finger. the bum that wasnt fighting me was staring in amazement at his former friend at his feet. twitching and groaning in pain. "yo-your inhuman! your a devil! a demon!" the man reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a snub nosed revolver. my eyes widened when i spotted the gun. i froze in my place knowing i wasnt able to dodge a bullet, then a voice that wasn't mine echoed through my ears. "im bored of this, i think ill just kill both of you..."

the mans hand that had the revolver in it started to shake vigoriously, and he started to point the gun downward at his buddy, still aching in pain from the crude version of shock therapy i gave him earlier. "what the hell is going on?" the man with the gun said. his eyes wide and filled with tears. the hand was still shaking as the hammer of the gun pulled itself back, locking into position. "no! please!" the other man whispered. looking up at his friend who had tears rolling down his face. "i cant... stop... it!" all of a sudden the mans hand and revolver became still. the alley was completely silent when the man whispered to his friend on the ground. "im sorry." followed by two large cracks echoing through the alley.

the mans hand with the revolver in it became limp and fell to his side. the ground was covered in red as the man on the floor was leaking out of his forehead and chest. the other homeless man, still holding the gun, filled his face with tears and anger as he screamed into the air "demon!" suddenly the limp hand became sturdy again. the revolver aimed straight at his own head and pulled the trigger. the man collapsed over the glowing barrel. Red pouring out of the hole in his head and spilled onto the glowing orange fire. sizzling and cracking when it reached the flame. i sat there in the puddle. still in pain from the fight a few seconds ago. staring now at the reddish orange glow that was coming out of the barrel. "they were useless vermin." Rinn said. "they deserved to die." i nodded in agreement as i layed down in the cold wet puddle. cooling my body, and closed my eyes.

Chapter 3 "God i Hate My Job..."

Before i started on the cappuccino machine i had to get my tacky green shirt on me to meet the boss's dress code. so i jogged toward the back of the Cafe towards the mens restroom. i unzipped the dark-gray hoodie i was wearing as i opened the door and jumped to a bathroom stall. i tore off my white tee that was underneath as quick as i could and rushed the green tee that previously tried to kill me over my head and around my body. it fit a little tight around the chest and arms but thats the way i like my clothes. before i left the bathroom i took a glance in one of the mirrors to see if everything was on the right way. i still cant believe that my cheap ass boss who re-uses coffee filters went out of his tight budget to place a full length mirror in both bathrooms. anyway, i took a glance at myself to make sure im up to par with his strict dress code. my dark brown shoulder-length hair was short enough to be pushed back with just a little water. as well as a rubber band. any longer and id be forced to wear a hair net. my dark, deep green shirt was flat and straight around my chest and waist only to meet the middle of my belt. i also wore my worn out black jeans that are mostly a dark gray now, which was being held up by my three prong brown belt with a silver buckle. completing my outfit with my dark brown leather shoes. "everything seems to be where it should -oh i almost forgot." i reached down into one of my oversize back pockets to grab a tacky green baseball cap that matched the tacky green shirt i had to wear, and placed it on my head. it had the same ugly neon orange logo on it as the sign in the front. but it was dress code for long haired employees. "God, i hate my job." i said to the doppelganger of myself in the full length mirror. i could of sworn i heard a small chuckle from behind me when i walked out of the bathroom, but i knew i was alone in there.

the cafe was just as nice inside as it was outside. the main bar area had all hardwood cedar planks that climbed up from the floors halfway to meet the dark java-colored walls with burnt orange accents. the main bar was made of a dark, heavy cedar wood. lined with bronze handles and pipes. complete with a huge complex antique bronze Cappuccino machine that liked to work only when it felt like it. my job was to work that behemoth. which wasnt as easy as it sounded. it doesnt really sound easy in the first place come to think of it.

"did you wash your hands?" a strange nasal voice emerged from behind the antique machine. "yes leo. unlike you i can actually reach the sink." i smirked as i pictured his stubby little body attempting to reach the various valves and nozzles on the Cappuccino machine. "a basic david and goliath situation i see." i said as i pointed at the top of the machine where there seemed to be a leak in main steamer pipe. "twist the center valve clockwise leo." i stated to solve that problem. "hey dont act like you know it all, jack. i wasnt the one who was an hour late again." leo replied with agitation "i had to cover your ass yet again, even though id love to see your ass get fired." i pulled one of the aprons around my waist and took a leap of faith over the main counter to meet leo on the other side. "okay, stop fantasizing about my ass and go grab some sealant so i can fix the leak." i was growing annoyed of his ego and wanted him to leave my sight. leo responded with an evil glare, but reluctantly obeyed my command, seeing that the boss was staring at the both of us.

after a couple hours of serving coffee, i started counting the minutes in which it was time to get out of there. i would of left an hour ago but i promised the boss i would work overtime. "me and my great ideas." i said sarcasticly to myself. somebody left a cleaning rag on the bar so i decided to clean the unoccupied tables near the front, but as i walked toward the front entrance, i saw a face that i seen earlier this afternoon. it was Gina. i never actually knew she lived close by since we never really talk, except for when i snore too loud in class that is. it was a bit exciting to see somebody i knew since its much less boring than counting minutes till closing time. naturally i wasnt going to rush over to her table since that would seem extremely arkward. so i decided to wipe down the tables located two stalls to the left of her. as i rubbed vigoriously at the pre-cleaned tables, inching my way toward Gina. i noticed she wasnt wearing her usual gray-wool sweater. in fact, she was wearing a dark red buttondown blouse which gave her slender body a rather nice shape. she also wore tight black dress pants and dress shoes. her blonde hair was in the usual librarian bun, which is originally what made me recognise her from afar. it seemed as if she dressed up for some special occasion like a dinner party, or a formal of some sort. by this time i was literally three feet from her table and she had not moved an inch. her attention was focused on her biology textbook. even out of school she still had her thinking cap on.

"you know, you suck at sneaking up on people Jack." Gina said smoothly as if she knew i was there the entire time. her eyes never left the book! how did she know? "you coulda said something earlier, instead of making me feel stupid the entire time." i replied, still in amazement that she knew who i was. "i could have, but i chose not to." she said as she smiled and turned her head towards me so her eyes met mine. i noticed that she wasnt wearing her usual black rimmed glasses tonight. in fact she had on a pair of stylish thin, silver rimmed glasses with rose colored lenses. "it was cute watching you panic." she had a bit of confidence in her words. i guess having a guy practically stalk you, gives you a bit of a confidence boost. "well since im here, do you want me to refill that for you?" i pointed at the empty coffee cup sitting inches away from her right hand. "umm sure, why not" she smiled as she handed me the ceramic coffee cup, i folded the table rag and draped it over my right arm as i reached for her cup with my left. right before i obtained full grip of the coffee cup, my index finger touched the bottom of her hand and she jolted back, followed by a yelp of pain coming straight from Gina. i watched the cup fall to the floor as if it were in slow motion. i even pictured myself reaching down to grab it just before it hit the ground but a voice inside of me said "no."

a large cracking sound echoed through the cafe. then reality kicked back in and i noticed the ceramic cup shattered into a million pieces at gina's feet. "im so, so sorry Gina! are you ok?" hastily picking up all the tiny shards of ceramic at her feet. "im fine. you just gave me a little shock, thats all." she replied. still amazed at what just happened. "a rather powerful one to say the least. i feel like i stuck my finger in a socket." i took a quick glance up at her to see if any ceramic shrapnel got on her clothing. i noticed her skin got even paler than what it already was. "oh god, i hope i didnt hurt you too badly. you sure your okay?" my heart was pounding but all i could think of was, who was it that told me no? i looked down to make sure i picked up every last shard but then i started to hear giggling and laughing from right above me. "cmon sparky, your gonna need more than just some static electricity to take me down." Gina smirked as she replied. "well, ill be sure to drag my feet when i fetch you a new cup then okay?" i stuck my tongue out at her as i carried the table rag full of ceramic shards to the trash can near the antique coffee maker.

"smooth one Fabio." that nasal voice appeared once again from behind the cappucuno machine. "just shut up leo and give me a refill." leo smirked and grabbed another ceramic cup from the shelf behind him and placed it under one of the many nozzles of the bronze giant. after a couple seconds, steam would rise from a vent on the left side and scolding hot milk would emerge and mix with the perculated coffee that was brewing on the other side. it was truly amazing to see such a complicated machine full of dials, knobs and valves do something so simple as brew a crappy cup of coffee. when the cup was full, leo reckessly tossed the cup in my direction so i ended up splashing some on my hand. it burned and hand clench. i flinched a little from the pain, but i didnt want to give leo the satisfaction of knowing he succeeded in burning me. so i swiftly turned and faced gina's table with leo and the machine directly at my back. as i took a couple steps forward i noticed Gina watching me as i came toward her with her new fresh cup of coffee. all of a sudden i started hearing a loud hissing sound and leo screaming in pain "my face! my face!" i jolted my neck around only to see steam and boiling milk streaming out of the antique bronze machine in every which way. as if i knew what was going to happen next. i swung back around toward Gina and yelled "Watch out! it might blo-." but before i could finish, i heard a large metal CLANG from directly behind me, as well as a massive force jolt my head forward and down toward the floor. i lost my balance and my head slammed down to the ground. within a matter of seconds the world around me started getting dark and mute. all i heard now was muffled voices screaming my name. and the sight of a thick bronze tube that lay beside me on the cold hardwood floor. pretty soon all my senses died out and all that was the Mansion Cafe had vanished.

Chapter 2 "This day is just getting better..."

i pulled up to my driveway sometime around 5:30 pm. technically it wasnt my driveway, it is my landlords but im sure a 60 year old man in a wheelchair wont be driving anywhere anytime soon. "Damn, damn, damn, im not gonna make it." i muttered to myself as i jumped out of my car and ran towards my front door. my hand went straight for the doorknob only to see it was locked. i never lock my door. something was wrong. "hey John!" i yelled up to the open window on the second floor "what gives? why is the door locked?" john was my hermit roomate that never left the house. John popped his head out the window with an Xbox headset on. "sorry, i had a girl over. i didnt want you to sneak up on us." John replied with a smile from ear to ear. "how do you get girls when i never see you leave the house?" i screamed up with confusion. but before he explained i cut him off remembering i was late for work. "hey stupid throw down my work shirt! will ya? im late again." i said with a sigh. "ok hold on a sec, i just want to beat this guy on Halo." - "Now John!" i blurted with disbelief. "okay, jeeze! sorry." john muttered something to the headset around his head and dissapeared shortly only to return with a plastic bag with what i hope to be is my work shirt inside. "heads up." john said as he dropped the bag. the bag floated down the side of the apartment building, only to land on the hood of my car with a thud. i sprinted back to my car ignoring johns wave goodbye to grab the bag off my hood, and proceeded to fling it through my open moonroof while at the same time jumping in the drivers seat.

peeling away from the ugly Brownish-yellow apartment, i decided to check johns handiwork and make sure if he threw me the right shirt. using my right hand i proceeded to tear open the tied up plastic bag. it was tougher plastic than it looked, the damn thing just wouldnt open. i let go of the wheel with my other hand and held the steering wheel with my knee as i wrestled with the plastic bag that was guarding my work shirt with its life. forgetting completely about the driving portion of my mission, i tore open the plastic bag with an overdramatic amount of force. as if the plastic bag was retailliating for me destroying it with such anger. the elastic-like plastic that this bag was made of decided to make my deep green work shirt lunge at my face. now completely blind with a large green blotch covering my face, steering with my knee, and most likely disobeying the speed limit. im a death trap waiting to happen. as quickly as i could i tore off the green shirt that was holding on for dear life and placed my left hand back on the steering wheel. "the Green Shirt of Death" i muttered to myself as my heart slowly returned to its original pace. "this day is just getting better and better.." as i regained my sense of direction, i realized i was only two turns away from my job. thankfully im almost there and i havent killed myself yet. i finally turn the last corner to see a large green and orange glowing sign with a neon coffee cup next to some writing that says The Mansion Cafe' . it was a rather nice place. even though it looked nothing like a Mansion. it was a two story house with many rustic accents, as well as two large reddish-brown marble stone pillars holding up the balcony resting right above them. just off the corner of one of the marble pillars hang a tacky green and orange neon sign with small tea-lights surrounding the outline. it was a quite beautiful place. with the exception of that god-awful neon sign.

my boss was waiting for me when i pulled up to the parking lot. he was a fairly short, stubby man with a receding hairline. "where the hell were you Jack?" my boss said with agitation in his words. "we need somebody to operate the cappuccino machine and nobody else has a clue how!" he said with not only agitation, but a hint of frustration this time. "sorry bout that, i was locked out of my house for a while. i couldnt get my work clothes." my boss is extremely strict when it comes to dress code, so i knew that would get him. "wheres Leo? he knows how to work it." i explained. my boss replied with a grunt and a sigh as he said. "that little idiot burnt himself on the steamer again. damn near almost took half his face off!" i smirked a little as i pictured it happen in my head. "okay, okay im on it. relax, dont worry ill work overtime today ok?" i cringed as i said those last five words. my boss' frown slowly turned the other way when he heard that too. he knows im a hard worker and id more than make up for my tardiness if i stayed late. "ok but i need you to fix the lighting around the sign tonight. it keeps cutting out." he said. "it may just be a loose wire or something, but ok no prob." i sighed and walked through the entrance to another day of boredom.

Chapter 1 "I Gotta Stop Sleeping in Class..."

"wake up Jack! Professor Thompson is gonna see you again!" a familiar voice whined in my ear. it was my classmate as well as annoying little friend, Gina. she usually likes to remind me that classtime is more important than naptime. "thanks for the reminder gina" i gave a false little smirk her way. "no problem sleepy" she replied before she stuck her tongue at me. "you know, one day im gonna catch you asleep in class and ill just whine and bitch in your ear and see how you like it?" i said as i retaliated with my own tongue. "are you two done with your conversation yet? i would really like to get on with teaching you know." a loud mono-toned voice said right in front of us. my head darted straight ahead as if i was caught red handed. "sorry professor. i was just trying to shut my alarm clock off." i smirked and glanced to my left at Gina. she gave me a stink eye but proceded to examine her biology paper on her desk. "one of these days Jack, you are actually going to pay attention to my teachings. you might actually learn something!" professor said with a sarcastic look on his face. "i really have to stop sleeping in class." i muttered to myself. "im halfway in my freshman year of college and im hanging on by the skin of my teeth." i stretched the sleep out my body and waited out the last ten minutes of classtime.

it felt like an eternity but the bell rang and i flew out of my desk towards the door only to have a dienty little hand grab my shoulder with a suprising amount of strength. "you never wait up for me!!" gina whined once again. i think she thinks shes my girlfriend or something. "sorry, im just in a hurry. i promised a friend id meet her in the parking lot." i replied with little hesitation. "oh... ok" she said with a bit of a sigh, as if i said i never want to see her again. she slowly turned around and walked towards the professors desk with her biology paper in hand. i couldnt help but look at her figure when she walked away. a slender little thing wearing pale blue jeans and an overly baggy grey wool sweater. she looks as if she could break at any minute. a bit pale in the skin as well but i think she told me that she was sweedish or something. i never really listen to useless information like that. almost instantly, i spun around and ran as fast as i could out the door through the halls of the college.

it was quite a beautiful sight outside the rustic looking college building. it had a complete wrap-around garden filled with Roses, Lillys and other flowers i had no idea of what they were called. beyond that was an outside lunch area complete with wooden benches and old fashioned iron ones, all rusted and ready to break and be thrown out. just after that was my favorite area as well as my current destination. the parking lot. the least glamorous and most modern part or the entire college. complete with students cars, and deadbeat students who never go to class.

while escaping from my rustic prison i catch a glance of yet another slender looking figure sitting right on the hood of my car. "hey dont scratch the paint!" i said sarcastically. the slender body stiffened for a second, then relaxed again when she recognized my voice. "you caught me daydreaming again Jack." she muttered. "your always daydreaming Reina, at least your professors dont give you hell over it." Reina gave me a quick smirk, then proceeded to sprawl out on the hood of my car as if it was made from the softest silks in asia. "hey where is your significant other?" i blurted "is he flirting with the gardener again? i swear one day that guy is gonna get a set of hedgeclippers through his neck." i proceeded to lean on the driverside door of the car to the left of my own. "prolly is! hes never gonna learn that im his girlfriend. especially if hes always off screwing around with the help!" Reina's eyes grew more frustrated as well as a bit depressed with every breath. "dont worry Rei-rei, im sure he'll notice you once we run out of women in this school." i stuck my tongue out at reina and she rebounded with a flying left foot to my shoulder. "ouch! im kidding jeeze go back to sleep on my car will ya!?"

Reina was the daughter of the head Principle of our college. he was a very strict man when it came to everything, except his own flesh and blood. she was supposedly highest grade point average in her class, except i never saw her once actually go to class. a Conundrum if i ever saw one. (wait can you even "see" a Conundrum?) anyway, Reina was the pure definition of a tomboy. shes a major gearhead when it comes to cars, but with long reddish-brown hair and tan skin, she looks as if she's never even touched a wrench, let alone rebuilt an entire engine in forty five minutes. her boyfriend was a complete tool as well as the running-back for our colleges' football team. i dont even think he knows her last name. it starts with an F i think.

"so you and mike gonna meet me at the usual place tonight?" i asked Reina, even though her eyes were shut i knew she was listening. "only if your junker can make it there. let alone around the track." Reina smirked as she slowly slid off the hood of my car. "i gotta find my stupid boyfriend and remind him to bring his car, will you be bringing anyone with you this time? or are you gonna sit in your car and give yourself a pep-talk like every other time?" Reina started to walk away knowing i wouldnt answer her. "Good luck finding Mike! better try the women's showers!!!" i laughed to myself as i got in my car and turned the ignition.

it took a while but a loud roar eventually came from under the hood, followed by a large bang from the rear end. "im sorry girl i know you need a new altenator and spark plugs but its so hard to find parts for you." the car sputted and groaned in response as if it understood what i was actually saying. i had a Black and Green 1992 Subaru Svx. it wasnt much to look at but when that pedal went down... it flew! well most of the time anyway. lately other expenses like phone bills, apartment rent and insurance bills have gotten in the way. i leaned over and spoke softly to the dashboard. "i know ive neglected you lately but tonight we'll make enough money to get you those new spark plugs and wires. how does that sound?" all of a sudden a large knocking came from my right side. it was Gina knocking on my window. i rolled down the window and glanced up at Gina wondering how long she was out there. "you forgot your laptop again Sleepy. i swear i feel like your mother sometimes." Gina streched out her arm with a scratched up and dirty old laptop. "thanks Ma!" i replied jokingly. "oh and dont worry, i didnt see you talking to your car again." Gina smirked when she replied. "i got some laundry for ya too if you feel like doing it for me? " i said sarcastically. Gina gave me an evil glare and walked away with her long blonde hair and a slight sway in her hips as if she knew i was going to take a glance at her butt. she was right, but she didnt need act like she was right.

i took a quick look at the scratched up laptop sitting on the passengers side seat. "wow what have you gone through?" i said quite loudly to yet another inanimate object. i always forget my laptop everywhere i go. this definately wasnt the first time gina knocked on my window to hand me this beat up old thing. while checking out my laptop, i managed to catch a glance of the dashboard clock and realized im extremely late! i stuck my car in gear and proceeded to peel out of my parking space and drive away.

Prologue

Prologue

My name is Jack, and i first discovered what i could do when i was little. i was an only child that grew up in a deranged house. my father was a drunk, and my mother was a whore who abandoned me and my dad when i was only 3 months old. my dad was a borderline schizophrenic who drank to escape his reality. since i was an only child and dad had his doubts that i was even his, i was very much a loner. when i turned five, my father noticed me saying arkward words and blank stares towards nothing. my father thought it was the same schitzophrenic gene in him that has been passed down his bloodline. so naturally they took me to a shrink. the shrink was a tall, gray-haired woman who looked like she knew wat she was doing. after about 2 hours of questioning and tests. the shrink figured that i developed an "imaginary friend" and all boys around this age develops one. so naturally, dad dismisses it and lets me have my "friend".

At the age of ten, i seemed to still have my friend. dad was getting more worried over time about my "problem" he started asking questions to me about who my friend is. at first i didnt answer, so naturally he got frustrated and slapped me. a ten year old boy. i was used to his aggrivation so it didnt really affect me. "answer me!" dad screamed as another slap came my way. at this point the slap was much harder and i was getting scared. "boy! nobody will know if ur gone since u dont speak to anyone except for your fake little friend!" dad screamed. "he is not fake!" i mustered up the courage to scream back. "...and he hates you!" i said with the last of my breath. dad's face got blood red and anger fell through his eyes into a cold stare at me. "i told you boy, nobody will miss you" my father balled his hand up into a fist and went to take a swing at my face, but something caught it midswing, like an invisible force holding his balled up hand in the middle between my face and my fathers. "i told you he dont like you..." i muttered. my fathers eyes grew wide with fear, he asked softly not to disturb the boy, "jack, who is your nice friend?" my smirk turned into an evil smile, "his name is Rinn, and he is REAL, father! he says i can do great things, and you were just holding me back!" my fathers eyes grew wider with anger and rage. he blindly swung with his loose hand and knocked me unconsious. out of nowere bright green sparks flew out of every finger on my hands, flying and jumping everywere around the room. lighting up the whole house with a bright green light. the last thing i saw before i blacked out was my father screaming in pain.

my eyes were still closed when i awoke. slowly i started to remember what happened while sirens as well as red and blue lights shine through my eyelids. "where am i?" i muttered to myself. i tried to reach out my hand but i felt a sharp pain in my shoulder and immedately clutched my fist on the soft, cool muddy ground beneath me. an unfamiliar voice spoke to me, "your going to be okay son" at first i thought it was my father helping me up. but when i opened my eyes all i saw was an unfamiliar man in a yellow poncho and a police badge on his left side of his chest. i got up and stood there speechless till i saw what was behind the yellow-dressed cop. it was my complete house left in ashes and cinders. "wa-what happened?" i asked the yellow cop. "we are pretty sure it was an electrical fire. but we got here a little too late. luckily your dad dragged you out of the house before it burned down, but for some reason he went back in and got hit with a main beam. im afraid your father is dead son..." i tried to muster a tear for the officer and succeeded in fooling him that i felt bad. i knew for a fact that he was dead the moment i closed my eyes. i had a feeling it was Rinn but he would never admit it. " son, im sorry but we are gonna hafta bring you with us to the precinct for some questioning if its okay with you?" the officer mentioned. "okay i will." i said as if i had a choice. i knew i didnt, but he didnt think i realized that. we got into one of the many police cruisers and drove away.

on the way towards the precinct, i realized what a desolate place we lived in. i never really left the house much except for when dad and i went grocery shopping. which was rare since we grew most of our stuff on our own land. that all has changed now, because of me. it didnt take long to reach the precinct, it was a fairly large building considering such a small crime rate here down in Charms, Texas. it was a bit unnecessary. either way the precinct was actually the third largest building in the entire town and can easily be seen from any end. the police cruiser pulled in line with all the other cruisers lined in front of the building. since i was sitting in the back of a police cruiser, when we pulled up i had to wait for the officer in yellow to open the door from the outside. as i look up at him through the window, he gave me a smirky little grin. i giggled a little at his funny face, till i heard a large cracking noise to the left of me. suddenly as in slow motion i see a little red circle appear in the smirking officers forehead. within a split second, the entire cruiser window was covered in red paint. i closed my eyes tight with fear while hearing three distinct words before it all went black. "wake up Jack!"
